I wanted to systematically install the main bearings one at a time and torque down after each bearing installation to find the culprit causing the crank to 'bind'. One thing I did different this time was to use what Brian uses to assemble his motor; STP Oil Treatment. Also I went ahead and installed the fly wheel as well.
Well after carefully assembling the crankshaft in the case with last bearing installed and torqued, the crankshaft spins rather easily, using the flywheel!!!
Maybe it was correctly assembled before but using the connecting rods to push/pull the rotating assembly was too difficult because of the leverage and reaching the floating part of the rotation at BDC/TDC.
Anyways, I put it up for the night and will stab the cam next to test fit it and see if I can button up the short block.
