Thanks :hillbilly: That's what happens when you do hardly anything for at lease 3 years and end up tossing things in there just to get them out of site. I have made a big dent in the mess/junk since I took that picture

I need to figure out how to do the heater channels though......and I weld like shit.

It's great to see you gettin' after it!!

I bet it feels like a load off. If I lived closer, I'd love to help out on your project. I think the bucket stand for the blaster is a perfect idea! Those legs won't rust for sure!

I feel like we all have a laundry list and it's tough to commit time to the hobbies. Especially when you have a hunny do list that is required to be worked first!!

Damn women, no chores! I just want sex, food, and hobbies....and not necessary in that order....it could be sex, hobbies, then food! :hillbilly: :hillbilly:

Thanks for the offer Freebird, If you or anyone else get down to my neck of the woods you are welcome to stop by......you don't even need to help, just drink a few beers and school me on VW stuff and give me ideas for my beetle. You just got to let me know what you drink so I can get it, I am not allowed to drink anything with alcohol because of some medication I am taking.

As for that honey do list, It's funny because I am the OCD cleaning machine who has a hard time making time for my hobbies......So my wife actually tries to force me to take time to work on relaxing things and not work around the house and clean constantly. It could be reverse psychology but I am not smart enough to know better.

My neighbor said it was a #4 and I am guessing just a normal sand (silica) but he gets it from a place that only sells in large quantities.

I have a Lincoln 140 and am using gas. I actually have not done any welding on this project. I have used the flux core on some heavier projects and quite a few years ago used stick on quarter steel.....From what I have practiced on with gas and light metal I am really messing it up. I don't know if it is temperature, speed, or if I am not using enough gas or maybe it was too breezy to be doing it outside......Hell, it could be all of the above.

what size wire are you using? thin sheetmetal its easier to use 23 wire thats what I used on mine.
but doing pans you should be able to use the standard 35

I gotta go out and check the size on the wire....and is there a certain amount of gas I should be using.

....And my BIL who is always bragging about working at an auto shop, building, and helping building all these bad ass cars... This is the guy who did my pans for me, I was out of town a lot because of health problems with family member and dealing with my own, He said don't worry about that he would put em on and put it in storage. I pull the thing out to clean it and you can really tell they are not great but as I have been sandblasting I have been finding holes where he burned through and tried to fix. And I know he used whatever wire came in the box when I bought it, There was flux core but I also made sure to buy a bottle of gas so he would have it but I don't know what wire they supplied in the box for using with gas.

Also, I am not trying to bad mouth because I do not think I could have done any better, maybe practice with unimportant pieces before attempting on the pans. My issue is welding the re-pop thin metal to an obviously thicker original metal.

Would it be best to ask welding questions here or in the tech section?

I am sure there is a way to know what amount of gas to use but what I did was adjust mine to be around 18psi I think. which means when squeezing the trigger the gauge should show around 18psi constantly
there is always burn thru at some time or another but with metal its usually fixed easily.
get some scrap pieces and practice welding them together until you feel good about trying on the car
take your time and make sure the metal doesnt get so hot that it warps
