Hey Eric, your car inspired someone close to me! My 14 year old daughter signed up after we come back from the Classic for a two year autobody course here at the local high school. We are going to talk to them about me providing the school a buggy kit and tube chassis to build on and paint up for their school project and once done, they can sell it and all funds go back into the class room. She is really intrested in specializing in custom paint work, espeically after seeing your wood work! Just thought you would get a kick out of that. Funny thing is she is 100% frilly girl and wears dresses 99% of the time,so this should be intresting. She does not have any problem getting dirty and she is a heck of a driven little girl so we will see. The instructor told her, you may or may not be the best painter in the class but you will be the prettiest and smell the best! The instructor is a retired old timer body shop owner that hated the insurance part of the biz so when he had the chance he folded up shop and became an instructor and he teaches the typical body and paint course and stays every day till about 10 PM for the kids that want to work on thier own cars and do custom work and he stays and teaches them on his own time. Really great teacher and his kids think he is the greatest guy in the world. I thought ya might get a kick out of it.

I'm glad she was inspired by the work on my square !!! That's cool. I also know how the instructor feels about insurance pay work. About 80% of my income anually comes from insurance pay collision repair. I have to deal with them every day and fight just to get enough money to cover paint and materials. They don't want to pay to do it right, it's amazing to me they have their own shops to butcher the cars for the amount they want. Tell your daughter to learn all she can and have fun. But keep it as a hobby. Someday I would love to go all custom work, and cut out the collision. Even after 14 years in business, and tons of custom jobs done, there is not enough good paying custom work out there to do it. At least not for what most people want to pay. So I'm stuck fighting with insurance companies for now.

Eric, you are right about the collision work being the steady paying jobs. Hey, I have a buddy about to put a fully auto in a buggy kit and he is looking for a complete auto shifter setup for it like the type 3 uses. He needs to entire floor assembly from a type 3, have access to one or know where we can look for one?

Sorry, I don't know of anything right now.
The only thing that comes to mind is finding a parts car on the Samba.

No more handles and no more front hinges, just need filler pieces for the old hinges and door tops welded in to make sure all door gaps are the same. Won't be long and it will see its first dab of filler to smooth out the rough spots as this is 100% metal and weld so far!
