Got the fuel gauge done but I do not like how the bright trim came out

By the way what is the knob for on the back of the gauge? All I can tell it moves the pointer

Its for setting the level on the guage to match the tank level.

Yep that and I used fine metal polish - I think its because of age

I think its both to tell the truth - worn, bent, scratched, dented, tarnished, etc, etc
