Most of the ones I have seen have some kind of filter in the tube the hose attaches to.
My own car using aftermarket air filters I simply used a separate small filter on the tube at the oil filler.

Picture please

Not the best picture and it could be done differently to make it look better but I am pretty lazy.

Oh okay. I just have a hose running from the oil fill to the aftermarket air cleaner.

Yea what's happening is the vacuum from the carb is likely pulling oil up into the filter. Vw's design used the oil bath which doesn't matter in that setup but with a dry element it does.

I may try running a filter like yours and see what happens. I didn't do a complete rebuild, just heads, flywheel, and seals. The lower end, pistons/rings/cylinders were not touched and I might be getting some blowby.

Any suggestions on the brakes?

Thanks

How do the drums themselves look? Are they nice and smooth or is their grooves in them?

Is it a grinding sound or just a squeaking sound? It could just be the springs or the pivots o the shoes maybe put some grease on the pivots and see if it goes away.

Coming back from the Cedar Hill Show (  ), I noticed that my steering wheel was no longer centered as it was to the show. Besides being crooked everything else seem tight and tracking straight. It wasn't till the following weekend I jacked up the front and check everything and all was tight and the free play was just about right. So I thought it just the suspension finally settling in and went about to remove the steering wheel and reset it to center. As I was removing the nut I notice this resistance in the steering shaft rotation then a moment where it felt like a slip, rotate back the other direction - resistance then slip. Come to find out after further checking the steering components again and having KBug rotate the steering wheel, the shaft would rotate in the coupler. So I got out the big wrenches and tighten the shit out of the pinch bolt on the coupler. Now the question - Is this kind of a common issue? I thought when I was assembling this it was odd the the shaft has splines and the coupler does not.

Another related yet unrelated question - I thinking about putting on a set drop spindles. Would there be any issues using the stock beam with the wide steel wheels?

Yet another unrelated question - I am about to add the Bug to my classic car insurance with the Mini and was wondering since I am new to the Bug scene If anyone would like to comment what the estimate stated value I should claim?

Weather is getting warmer so soon I'll be attacking the multi-piece headliner.
