Yeah, thanks man. I'm pretty bummed, because I will miss driving it during that time. Transmission aside, I hope to improve a few things while it's down. I'll keep y'all posted.

I think this *might* work for you. I've seen it on some GL bugs. Supers though so the curve might be different...

I started on the apron today, to make it removable. What a pain in the ass. I hate drilling spot welds lol. Slow and steady...
It's going to be soooo worth it though when that big ass engine just slides right out :D

The drivers side is about done, although I think there is one more weld that doesn't show.

The drivers side was frustrating me so I decided to work on the passenger side. So far it seems easier.

After I finish the areas under the fenders I need to move on to where the deck lid seal goes, and then inside the engine compartment on the sides.

I don't know, I don't remember how Tony had his. It will bolt on where it's sandwiched between the body and fenders though, so nothing will be visible from the outside. I may or may not weld up all the holes where I drilled out the spotwelds.

Yeah that's how Tony's was. Once installed you really couldnt tell unless you looked at the part right by the decklid seal

Cool. Yeah, you shouldn't be able to tell on mine either, except in that same area, or if you look at the back/inside of the fenders where they bolt to the body/apron. I'm having to drill a LOT of spot welds to get this thing out. Especially on the driver's side, the guy that did that side was a little too happy with his spot welder. The passenger side seems to be a bit more methodical in where they're placed. I'm going to have to put my welder to good use to fill all the damn holes on the apron and body. :hillbilly:

Hans was on a mission with the spot welder. So how bad was it really cutting the apron on an early car? Did it at least bring a tear to your eye?

Yeah, tough decision for sure on an early-ish car that had never been hacked. But I look at what Rod Emory does to 356's, and Buddy to VWs much more rare and valuable than mine, and it makes me think "what am I scared of?" At the end of the day, it's just metal, and it will be completely reversible should I ever get a wild hair up my ass to put my car back to stock (VERY doubtful  ). On the plus side, it's going to make my car so much more fun to work on. I should be able to have the motor out in no time, and back in in no time. As it is now, I absolutely HATE pulling and installing the motor from that car. I love the idea of being able to easily pull the motor to freshen it up or fix or change something.
