faster than safe, that's for sure. 1/4 mile calculators say it will do the quarter in the mid 11's at 115 mph, and I believe it. I would run out of gear at about 135 mph, and I think it has the power to do it, but bugs start trying to become airborne in the low 100s, so I wouldn't push my luck too much.

faster than safe,

I like this quote
Reason why I asked was the 120 speedo. Just remembering back in the day when cars had 120+ speedo and cars would not be close to that. But you are right in order for the '55 to be operating at that speed work would have to done in order to be safe.

I've had the car up to about 90-something or maybe around 100, and it felt really stable. The speedos that came on my car only went to 80 mph though, which is one reason I had the 120 mph one made. I would feel pretty safe taking it to ~115 on a drag strip, but I'm sure it would be pretty squirley.

Did some tuning on the carbs today. I had f7 emulsion tubes in it, which is what IDAs usually come with. It seemed like it was way too rich in transition, even though the low speed and main circuits were pretty good. F2 tubes are supposed to be leaner in transition and richer on the high end, so I thought I would give them a try. When I pulled out the jet stacks and lined the all up, I was surprised to see this:

if you look closely, you will see two things, one is that they are all labeled as f7, and the other is that they are not all the same. You will notice that the two on the right, which came from one carb, have an extra row of holes. Based on the location of those holes, those two tubes would tend to lean out the mixture at high RPMs compared to the other tubes that don't have the lower row of holes. So two cylinders would run leaner than the other two in a certain RPM range. I had actually read that there is occasionally variation in e-tubes that are labeled the same, but I was surprised to see it considering the tubes came from my IDAs which I bought new as a set.

Anyway, for comparison, here is an f2, on the right, with the two variations of f7's on the left and middle.

You can see that the f2 has more holes up high and none in the middle or down low. That tells you that they will make transition leaner and mid and high RPMs richer than the f7s. Sure enough, thats exactly what they did. Transition is pretty much perfect now and the top is a bit rich. Throttle response is improved. I'll probably swap my 175 airs for some 200s and I think it will be about perfect across the board.

Very interesting! I bought a set of F7's from ebay a year ago for my IDA's I think I am going to dig them out and take a look. They are still in the bubble wrap from when I got them.

Your engine will probably want f11's, I would start with them. F7s usually run well in v8s.
