I did a bunch of unconventional things, compare to motors that supposedly make a lot of power but are undrivable turds. Short rod ratio, short manifolds, relatively low duration (310), "only" 48 IDA's, "only" 1 3/4 inch exhaust, etc. Made 231 at 7500 and probably would have continued pulling to 8k easily based on how the torque curve looked at 7.5k, and it made 75% of peak torque at only 2k rpms. And those numbers are on pump gas, with the belt and muffler on a very conservative dyno. I putt around all day in 4th at 1800-2000 rpms in stop and go traffic and it runs cool. That's my combo |

Thanks. Here's to unconventional things. What kind of heads? Valve size? |

The heads are DRD L7's, but with custom 7mm stem Ferrera valves, PAC LS1 springs, and titanium retainers. I got the weight of the valve train low enough that I was able to run only 175 lb seat pressure, and 415 lb open pressure. With Pauter 1.5's I've got .655" lift at the valve. Valves are 44x37.5. I haven't driven the ol' gal in a few months... mostly just due to laziness So this past weekend i fired her up and got the cobwebs blown out. I got about halfway down my drivewary and hit the brakes, and there were none... right to the floor it went! One side of my reservoir was pretty much dry, so I spent a few munutes checking each caliper from under the car with a flashlight looking for signs of a leak. Couldn't find any. The master cylinder looked like it may be the culpret though, so i guess I'll be swapping it and hoping that does it. I was pretty bummed, i was looking forward to driving it again. |

So yeah, the master cylinder was the culprit. I saw some signs of leaking around where it bolts to the body, and then when i pulled it out and removed the rubber boot a bunch of fluid came spilling out. Attachment: Here's the replacement, I've had this for years, brand new in the box. Its more appropriate then the one i had since its made for 4 wheel disk brakes. Attachment: The caliper is showing the diameter of the new one compare to the old one, its like 2.7 mm bigger. I'm sure the pistons are similarly upsized. Attachment: Should give me a bit more braking power. My next brake project needs to be customizing some cables and housings for the rear e-brakes. I havent had an e-brake in years! Any of you familiar with the older cars will know how weird the e-brake cable routing is on these cars. Needless to say the brake cables and housings that came with the rear disk brake kit wouldnt fit this car. |

I wonder if the pistons are different - like you mentioned.. if so I wonder if anyone has investigated all the options out there and have found and created a comparison chart for those wanting a "little extra" ... |
