I bought a real breather box from Shagg on Instagram. The little Empi one I believe was filling up and leaking due to not enough capacity. Also, my Pauter rockers are the old style where the adjusters just have through holes in them, so I think my rocker chambers have been filling up and basically pumping oil into the breather. A few people have told me I can replace the adjusters on the intake rockers to ones without holes to reduce this issue. There will still be plenty of oil in the rocker chambers to keep things lubed.

Nice!

Hey Brian, where did you get your numbers from? I'm needing a set for autocross and it's a pain when you can't find them locally. Also, I like the size you chose for the circle and number sizes. What size(s) are you running with? I'm terrible at picking out sizes unless I see them against something for comparison. Thanks in advance!

Hey Mike. The "meatballs" are 15" diameter, and magnetic. Unfortunately i don't remember where they came from, and can't find any record of it in my email. They might be these from Pagasus though https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/produ ... oduct=3365
The numbers are about 7" tall and came from somewhere else completely, which I also can't remember. You can also get vinyl numbers from Pegasus.

A note on magnetic "stickers." Whether they stick seems to have a lot to do with the car. We had a bunch of old VWs and a 356 out for that rally photoshoot and the magnetic graphics they had made up would not stick to most of the cars, or at least half of them. Makes me wonder if some of those cars were solid Bondo...

Just a quick update. I picked my transmission up on Monday, fully rebuilt and ready to go! The carrier bearing on the loaded side was toast. He replaced all the bearings and the synchros and inspected everything, everything looked good. Only thing he found as a possible culprit was the preload on the diff was 0.016" too tight! That could have lead to premature failure of the bearing, hard to say for sure.

Also, I decided not to change the gearing. I had thought about going with an 0.89 4th (from 1.04) for better freeway cruising, but I decided to stick with what I have. I love how punchy the car is even in 4th gear, and didn't want to give that up for rare freeway drives. I'll just continue to put up with 3750 RPM at 65 mph on the freeway.

I still have a bunch of little things to do before putting the transmission and motor back in, but hopefully I'll have her back on the road in a couple weeks tops.

I love this build thread, such a sweet car Brian... and a daily driver to boot.

Saw your post on IG hard to believe that diff is still in that good of condition with the amount of punishment you have put it through in the past 9 years. I remember how envious I was when you bought it.

That's an old picture lol. From what Jim told me though, it still looks perfect in and out. Luckily, it didn't get full of bearing shrapnel.

That thing was the best $1500 I ever spent on that car. Absolutely necessary for anyone wanting to race.

Are you still running the split case tranny albeit modified or something newer?
