Those of you that know, know that I've been wanting a Fridolin for YEARS!!! I get on Samba almost every day and never find anything. Well, in theory I'm about to get one if all works out     So, this one popped up on the Samba a few weeks ago and I've been working it... Problem is that the vehicle is in the Czech Republic in Pargue. I've been emailing with him and had multiple Skype video calls with him and the Frid. He works for the local Czech TV and is producing Czech has Talent TV show ;) ;) I have OVER 200 pictures of everything possible so I know its issues. I feel very comfortable with him but I'm still not comfortable sending that kind of ching chang without having seen the car.

This guy runs a their VW board http://www.flat4.org/forum/.

So here we go, Me and Kostya fly out of IAH next Wednesday night and arrive in Prague Thurs afternoon. We are being picked up by Jan and going straight to his mechanics shop where the Frid is currently being all tuned up. We are then staying in a hotel in Prague Thursday night and checking the city out all day Friday. Sometime Friday night we are driving the Frid from the Czech to Germany to Stuttgart where we will hang out at the Mercedes and Porsche museums. We are then driving the Frid to Hessisch Oldendorf to Grundmann's Personal VW Museum for a private tour. Then it's over to Wolfburg to check out the old factory. Then to Bremerhaven to drop the car off with the shipper. Then over to PROTOTYP museum in Hamburg and fly back out of Hamburg to Houston International    That's if all goes as planned :? :? :? The shipper said that the car would be in the port of Houston 4 weeks later.

Should be an Adventure for sure!!! Here's many of the pictures so you can see it up close and personal. For those of you that don't know much about them, here's some history http://www.vw-fridolin-ig.de/en/content/?goto=vw-fridolin-history.html

This car is the Swiss Frid that got rear corner glass. Only 1201 cars were made. There's only a VERY small number of Frids left (somewhere around 200 worldwide) but even fewer Swiss Frids. Like under 15 that they know of (from what I've been told and read). He bought the 147 from a Danish collector who purchased it through a dealer of boats and yachts, who purchased these at the lakes on Swiss-Italian border in area of Brissago. It was produced in 1973 but registered in 1976 and it spent 10 years as a Swiss Postal Vehicle. Volkswagen had to hold some cars for the Swiss Postal on stock due to conditions of the contract hence the delay period between production and registration. The car was then sold to company BB Boats (which still exists) and which provide service, leasing, rental and sales of the boats mentioned above. The car served as a company car to carry stuff along and previous owner told me the engine (1300 singleport) died in the service. The Danish used boats broker came to Brissago, and between used boats he saw this strange car with VW logo on the bonnet. He took some pictures and showed them to his friend, VW collector, in Denmark. He reacted immediately and they brought the car do Denmark. It then made it's way to the Czech.

Gotta say I am very envious right now. Not because of the Frid ( I think they look like 2 day old vomit) but because of the trip in itself and that you get to see the Grundmann's private collection. That would be worth the trip all by itself. Congrats! have a blast
