Post subject:  57 Streetrod Project - Update 4/30/17

My "forever" project is moving along albeit slowly....Body is basically completed. Since I have a metal sunroof and chopped top I wanted something other than a stock style headliner...After musing on this awhile I decided that fiberglass was a good option. I used the outside top of the car as a mold. I taped the top of the car with good Scotch heavy duty packing tape, put on several coats of mold release and laid 2 layers of 8oz bi-directional cloth on. Cured over night and popped it off the next morning! I had already added X-Mat insulation to the entire inner roof, so with a bit of trimming I glued the piece to the inside of the roof...lots of filling and sanding and filling and sanding, but now I have a really nice solid headliner.

The final work on the body was the dash. I welded up everything but the speedo. This included the fresh air vents, glove box, ash tray, radio and all knobs. My speedo is a multi function, digital unit that includes GPS speedo, tach, fuel, turn signals and a couple of other indicators. BTW, yes those are a/c vents as I will be installing a Gilmore custom unit. Grant wheel with Speedway stainless column.

Also as a Birthday present the ATOMWERK Engineering 3" Drop Spring Plates came in! I had to change the bushings to 1-3/4" ID ones, change the torsion rod cover plate and go to shortened shocks...worked out pretty nice.

In my spare time I also had all 4 brake calipers powder coated bright red (the rears w/e-brakes are a bitch to reassemble). I also rebuilt both CV axles and added red boots.

More photos coming soon....
