Update coming up...

Well lets start with the motor.

I dropped the heads off at a local machine shop to be rebuilt. He called and said they were junk . My buddy Brad gave me a set of square boss heads I dropped them off at David's machine shop as well and had them rebuilt. I wish I had done my homework a little better on those 40H square boss heads. I did not realize so much had to be changed to run the square boss heads. I did find 3 of the proper push rods (with the knurl that are 2mm longer) from Brad, and he thinks he may have the proper manifold so I am still in search of the correct length head studs, rocker shafts and the rest of the push rods.

From my previous post you will remember that the motor was rebuilt prior to coming to me, what I found out after splitting the case is that there were mismatched rods (2 early and 2 late with the casting tab) and there were 3 Mahle pistons and one of unknown origins. I at first searched for a used Mahle piston, and found one but then I cam across a new set. So now the short block has new pistons, bearings, and rebuilt rods. The crank, cam, and lifters are all in excellent condition so I reused them. I had the carb, generator and fuel pump all rebuilt as well. I also purchased a new muffeler and the car came with a set of brand new heater boxes. now on to the pictures....

In this picture you can see how the head studs are too short for the square boss head

And this is a picture showing the difference between the round boss (left) and square boss (right) you can see that it is longer and has the knurl. I still need to find 5 more of these.

Will got the body off and is about to start the metal work....

I located me some donor metal. Bought 2 and a half cars for 600 bucks. I also got some patch panels in. I believe between the two we will have all we need for repairs.

That's awesome! Hauled those donors out from Cedar Hill, huh? Looks like a lot of work ahead. :hillbilly:
