Hi
Have been a short time lurker and a long time Beetle fan. Budgets wouldn't allow me into an air cooled Porsche, skills probably aren't ready for that anyway, so I decided to go a more fun route and build something in the vein of a German looker Super Beetle. I have been really interested in the Outlaw P-cars I see on the web, especially Rod Emory at Emory Motorsports, Magnus Walker's P-cars and I also like the 912's from Benton Motorsports in Anaheim, CA. There are some exceptional Beetle's I look to as well, MK-Zero's '55 is awesome. There are so many others.

I bought a '71 Super, plan is to upgrade suspension bits with tough and lowered parts, disks on the corners, wide wheels, home build a fun power plant and put in a minimalist interior. Not a daily driver just something fun to cruise in. The car is already disassembled and with the body/paint guys at Caney Creek Collision, I found them thanks to this board. I will post pics later of some of the ideas I have for the car.

I am cutting my teeth as I go, already made some dumb mistakes. Bought the car near Amarillo unseen, rust free and unmolested as the ad said. Well, you know how that ended up, front end collision damage and rusted channels. I came across a deal for a better shell and bought it. This “new” shell will be the canvas, no collision and minimal rust. I’m on the lookout for a hood and fenders if anyone has a cheap source, some of mine need replacing.

Awesome. If you need Super Beetle tips or parts, let me know, I'm in Katy too right off of Mason and I have a couple 72 supers.

Thanks for the feedback! I forgot to mention that I had completely disassembled the vehicle. A lot has happened in the body shop. See progress as of yesterday.

Looks good! Will you be re-installing the air-box controls?
