Way to get it done! I like your method of bolting the pan half to the body before welding. I have done it that way several times on beetles and have never had an issue yet every time I have installed a pan without the body the holes never line up correctly.

Brakes... nothing is ever simple...

Front brakes done... Adjusters were frozen tight. Multiple broken points on the stars... didn't even know that was possible. (anti-seize you adjusters people!!)
Anyhooo... New shows, lines (hard and soft), master cylinder... Kept the old drums, hopefully don't need to replace those... cleaned out all the wasps nests, spider webs, rust, etc. Removed all the nastiness of the old bearing grease, degreased, lightly sanded the drums down, and repacked all the wheel bearings (surprisingly, the bearings looked good). Moving to the rear brakes next.

Soft top. Disassembled straightened and rebuilt the top frame. Installed the "new" vinyl top I got with the car. Top wont close, but reading up on the Samba, it needs to be heated up to allow the vinyl to stretch.

What's left... rear brakes, drain and fill the transaxle, hook up the electrical (wonder what doesn't work?), clean fuel tank, run new fuel lines, need tires, POR 15 the underside of the new pans... then see if everything works and fix as needed.

New Years Goal -- Running/Driving by Feb 1... (we can hope...   )
