Drove it to work ... nice this morning ... not as nice this afternoon. I think my idle shutoff is either not working and or my timing is off. Smells rich coming to a stop light and will not idle. Also small backfire when letting of the gas .. any thoughts

It might be the carb but it sounds more like the ign. Check your timing, dwell, and valve lash then report back.
