Hurry up and get that thing on the road, I'm tired of being the only driving type 3 in the Houston Chapter

Elliot, it looks like L630 cobalt blue to me.

The thing about customizing anything on these is that they were well thought out, they made their mistakes on the type 1 and perfected it when they designed the type 3 LOL. Down to the seats...

The issue you will have with just swapping out to lowbacks is: the early cars have a latch to keep the seat back from folding forward. It's way under the seat, and they attach via cable to a mechanical pressure switch at the door. Door open, you just push the seat forward. Door closed, it's locked in place. Pretty smart huh?

On the 69 squareback, vw abandoned that, and just put release levers on the highback section. So if you swap over, you have nothing to pull that cable to release the latch.

You options without getting too complicated, are to swap over to early model lobacks, and every time you need to get to the back seat, reach under and find the lever and pull on it (it gets old...) or cut down the seat you have. The part that makes it a highback is just tack welded on. Grind 'em off and you have a set of lowbacks that keep the release lever on the side.

Or, sit around and wait for years to find a pair of late 67 lowbacks. They do pop up every once in a while

Have questions or issues, just ask, Nick and I know a lot of type 3 stuff, and type 3 people

No prob. You will want the 64 and earlier seat covers, as the top of the lowback is different like a bug when it switched in '65 or '66. The seat bottom is the same 62-71. So just order for a '64, and cut a slit in the side for the release.
