Found out that commercial buses did not have rear view mirrors up to '66.

Westies didnt either. Yet i have seen 3 (and owned 2) that had bug mirrors screwed to the airbox cover. It works, and looks right

I got the rear end out today. It got too hot to work by 12:30!! I drank 3 quarts of water! It came out fairly smoothly with out to many hiccups. One of the 27mm trans cradle bolts didn't want to come out smoothly, but eventually it did. Only one rats nest. Now I need to get the "Big Nut" trans fixed up and get it installed followed by my turn key 1600DP I got from BeetleBill.

My truck has only one mile on it!!

I got the speedo installed, figured out how to adapt a 3 prong flasher, and rebuilt the overhead fresh air box today. Wasp nest had locked it up.

The Big-Nut rear end is finally in a million pieces. Going to clean it all up and get it back together. RGB's need new bearings. The inside was gummy, but no trash or dirt. So far so good!

Update:

Trans is clearanced for 12V. It was easy with the motor in the bed of the truck. I just put the side gate down and brought the trans over to check fitment.
Axle tubes and RGB caps have been cleaned and painted. I'm now ready to install the new, not made in China, bearings. and get it all back together. Next on the list is to install the gas tank, buy a battery and fire up the motor.
