I have a new (rebuilt?) Chinese generator that you can have for free.... but I'm a ways from Houston. I can understand if you don't want to go Chinese. I carry it as an emergency spare.

If I can't get my hands on a good one before the harvest then I might take you up on that offer.

Looking good Nick. Like the cow catcher.

NTB in Webster can balance the tires or check with George Karacostas, he can probably do them.

I have a couple genny's if you want to look at them. Not sure if they are operable or not but it's easy enough to check. Worst comes to worst a rebuilt German one is probably better than a new non-German one.

If you don't mind, can I check out your generators next weekend?

No pics so none of this happened :redguy:

Thingmon did not hook me up with a good used generator
I did not replace the rear main seal
I did not break the lower brake reservoir
I did not finish the brakes on the last wheel (scored a pair of German wheel cylinders off rock auto for cheap  )
I did not change one of the rear window seals
I did not break the windshield while trying to change its seal
I did not score a good used gas tank and sender for $15

I got 2 more weekends to get her on the road with 5 days of driving it around Corpus Christi for a shakedown, if I can pull this off it will be close.

The to do list is getting smaller:
fuel tank (on the way)
bleed the brakes (reservoir is on the way)
seal up the trans and install it (tomorrows project....done)
install gen (next weekend project)
seal up the exhaust (next weekend project)
get a battery (tomorrows project....done)
replace windshield (set up appointment for next Saturday with safelite)
Get it registered (to be determined when I can take a day off work)
rear hatch and slider seals (on the way)
replace 2 more window seals (whenever I can get some help :help: in the next 2 weekends)
go through electrical (whenever I get a chance)

Hopefully no more surprises :?

Sorry once again no pics, I was focused solely on wrenching.

Saturday:
Safelite installed a new windshield in 30 minutes flat :wow:
Installed the gas tank
swapped the gen out with the one Dave gave me then stabbed the motor in
ordered another master cylinder because the one I bought last week doesn't fit :furious:
installed the badass machined shift coupler
replaced rear hatch seal
installed the battery
fired the motor up in the vehicle
tested the electrical
went to the Kemah show

Sunday:
etch, primed, and painted the engine lid
fixed the big fold out table
repacked the CV joints
installed the rear apron, bumper, and hitch
drove it

This thing had a locked up motor and the PO said the trans didn't have first, just rusted rings and a bad shift coupler...I lucked out

It shifts better then my notch, I really like that billet shift coupler http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/ ... id=1252462 . There is couple of small issues to sort with the electrical, but I suspect most will be solved with new bulbs. It still is not charging, so I ordered some new brushes and a VR, I might even get a alternator conversion kit just in case.

Here is the new to-do list:
register it
install MC reservoir and bleed the brakes
fix the charging system
replace the burned out bulbs
figure out why the gas gauge isn't working
get the tires balanced

That's all that is left, I'm going to take this to the harvest but its going to be by the skin of my teeth.
