what size are those motors and what kind power do they make? Are they cutting down 6 cylinder Porsche heads? They certainly look cool.

I did some reading and the engine is quite strong. The 3.2 units after the surgery are 2.1ltrs and make a healthy 220bhp. Its not bad. Unfortunately I have no idea about the cost involved. They remove the middle cylinder, same goes for the heads, etc.

D'oh! :?

I had a couple lash caps fail and some pieces tried to go through the oil pump, lol.

I also found two broken inner valve springs. I'm going to tare the engine apart and inspect everything. My guess is it destroyed the oil pump slot on the cam too when the the pump seized. Oh well, these things happen sometime when you push the envelope...

That sucks, so what's next, are you going to build one of those reliable type 4 motors? w:pw

Ninja edit: How did something that big get sucked through the strainer and into the oil pump?

Probably no strainer, just a filter after the pump...

Wayne, the oil light came on, I shut it down right away.

Nick, the oil screen is restrictive for high revving motors, I never run one.
No type 4 for me, I like making power too much. Besides, this failure had nothing to do with what type motor it is.

I just got bit by the china bug too, there is a 1"+ crack around the collector on my knock-off t-bird header

I think I'm scrapping the idea of boosting a type 4 motor for 250-300hp and I probably will go the same route with the notch that I'm doing with the bus.

There is only so much you can do to make the current crop of performance parts reliable, and you did everything possible. In the mean time I'm going to finish fixing the the throw out bearing then enjoy driving my slow "boat anchor" powered notch

The lash caps were from Supertech here in CA, hard to say where they are made...

Sorry to hear about your header, can you weld it up and run it for a while more?
