Tore the short block apart this evening. The drive on the oil pump sheared off, and the face of the cam looks perfect.

I pulled this out of the oil pump, another piece of lash cap

I looked at a couple bearings, looks like some crap may have made it through them, so I'll replace them all. I may have the crank turned too, I need to look at it a little closer.
Anyway, it looks like it will probably just take the new retainers, springs, oil pump, and bearings. I'm going to send my valves back to Ferrea and have the tips hardened. No more lash caps for me on this motor!

Nope. Too restrictive for high revving motors with big pumps, it would starve for oil. What I will run though is a magnetic drain plug, that would have captured the lash cap fragments ;)

If that motor is so awesome then why aren't you dry sumping it?

Ethan: it's 4" narrow and I'm running CB dropped disk spindles. Front wheels are 16x6

Nick: no need for that.

More carnage. This is the last of it, lol. I'm looking at this as sacrifices to the god of speed, lol

Bearings are all scored up. Crank may need to be turned, I'm going to see if it will polish out first.
Image

Two inner springs were busted. I guess they couldn't take the extreme lift I was throwing at them
Image

What's left of the two failed lash caps
Image

And finally I had a pushrod tip work loose. I guess they weren't up to the task either
Image

It will be stronger this time, LS1 springs, hardened valve tips, no lash caps, and Manton pushrods.
