Worked on the car this weekend. Got most of the wiring temporarily hooked up, but I need some help. As you know I had the nose replaced with an aftermarket piece (bad mistake). As I ran the wiring I notices that the headlamp rubber wiring conduit hole is way too big and the the turn signal conduit hole is not in the right place where the rubber conduit does not reach and it seems too far back. I am thinking the headlamp rubber wiring conduit hole is for a later model but I do not have any references to make sure I order the right one for the hole.
Also I noticed that the wiring kit I got for a '62 the tail lamp wiring is too short. Where did the '61 and '62 wiring route though the body for these years. I took tons for pictures during the tear down butttttt not one of this area :|

John as far as the taillight wires, you should have two separate small harnesses that run from the main harness to the taillights. the passenger side is fed through the rear apron at this point in the picture.

The smaller hole to the right is not the hole for the wiring to go through. It use to have a plastic wire keeper there that the harness would push into. You are missing the hole that the actual wires go through.

It looks like your headlight tube hole is larger than normal.

Glad I posted them side by side. You actually just need to make that hole for the turn signal bigger you are missing the wire keeper hole. also if you notice in the picture that I took that real tiny hole next to the hole the turn signal harness goes through is where your ground should be anchored. I posted a picture that shows the size of the hole for you to measure against the one you have for the headlight harness.

Thanks Ethan. I'm thinking that the stamped hole for the headlamps is for a later model tube. I'll measure it when I get home but i am thinking maybe 1" dia??
On the tail lamp wiring, are you referring to the hole or where the innner and outer sheet metal comes together? On this car there is a hole on the wheel well side closer to the bottom rear of the by the bumper mounting. I am remembering the wires going through that hole up between the inner and outer sheet metal and exit into the engine compartment through the gap between the two at the deck lid seal flange. I do not remember if this car had that that round hole shown on your car unless one of the body guys welded it up. But never-the-less there is not a indent stamping in that area either.
Interesting .....

When I got the car it had the '62 style tail lamps and since my daughter will be driver this car I elected to keep them for better visiblity.

the hole is to exit to the tailight. the harness for the passenger side is fed through the apron where the sheetmetal comes together.

This is getting more interesting. The rear driver and passenger side of this car are the same i.e. no direct hole from the engine compartment to the wheel well.

As far as the head light hole, its a tad less than 1".

the picture I posted was for a 62 on yours it goes in here,

and exits through the hole you see here in this pic.

The reason the taillight harness isnt matching up is because you are putting a 62 harness into it. the wires go a different route.

You are also going to have an issue with your turn signal switch. the 62 harness is not a plug and play harness,a 61 turn signal switch is a one year only item. It has 6 wires instead of the normal 3 wire.
