Just want to toot my horn and at the same time rub it into all you carb/dizzy guys faces
So I have been driving living shit out of the notch, about 700 miles a week between driving to and from Corpus and the 30 mile commute to work. It has given me lots of laptop time to really dial in the tune and I'm finally able to shake out all the little gremlins that I have been fighting.
First failure was the 6v wiper switch which happened right before it became my daily. Apparently that switch had a small short and that is what gave me all the alternator fan belt drama. NOS 12v 1500 switch and a '67 wiper assembly later all is well.
...until I started having a random ecu shutdown after cruising for extended periods at 70-75mph. I concluded it was the crank position sensor, and my buddy Mario Vellota guessed correctly that the sensor was too close and would send a overvoltage to the ecu, which caused it to shutdown. Short story long it was way to close. I bought a new one from rockauto ($12 FTW) and installed it as far back as I could (approx 1/16"). Problem solved plus the added bonus of curing my chunky idle

The back story is, when I originally bought all the parts for the MS install I got the crank sensor used off ebay. The chunky idle I always thought was caused by the GSXR COPs. Lesson learned is to never buy used sensors
then I also have been getting blown around pretty bad by the winds and lots of bump steer, more so then usual. I whipped out the brown bentley (too cheap to buy the blue one) and followed the procedure to tighten up the sway bar. While under there I did discover the grub screw had backed out a little...easy fix. The old timers on the Samba so it's a 3,000 mile check to make sure that stuff is right, live and learn, I got 16,000 miles on it and that was the first time I checked it.
So this thing now fires right up with just the key, I need to dial in the cold start map but other then that it warms up without having to play with the go pedal. The idle is down to 850 like it's supposed to be and I put my stamp of approval on the GSXR ITB's injector location, apparently it works just fine for our motors.
Aside from rolling around in a tin can with no luxuries, it's a fun little daily. BTW- I'm getting better mpg's then the civic when driving the same route and same speed
Let me know if any of you guys want to step up and go with EFI and computer controlled ign, I think I finally made it through my learning curve
