I bought the engine assembled, stuck. I took it apart, and like a dummy, I didn't measure the pistons before I ordered new ones. The guy I bought the engine from said it was an 1835. Luckily, Kermit had what I needed and we were able to make a trade. That saved the day.

Just because I don't know why did you trhink it was a 1835 and it turns out to be 1641? is it the crank , can , pistons? Just wondering ?

He was told it was an 1835 when he got the motor, which meant it had a stock 69 mm stroke and 92 mm pistons and cylinders. Once he brought it over and we took a couple measurements we realized it was stock size, or it may have been a 1641.

Thanks , I was trying to understand what the combinations that changed the size... Just learning ... I know bore and piston size and cam all change things. Could he have gone with bigger pistons? or would he then have to have the case worked on?

You have to have the cases and heads open up to accept larger cylinders. The biggest you can really go with stock cases and heads are the "slip in" 87mm cylinders, which make a 1641, vs the stock 85.5mm P&C's. Going from the 85.5's to the 87's you "give up" cylinder wall thickness since the cylinder outside diameters are the same. The next step up is 90.5mm, which requires case and head machining, and results in a 1776cc. Then you have 92's, which are the same OD as the 90.5's, that make an 1835cc, then finally its 94's, that make a 1915cc (these are all assuming the stock stroke of 69mm).

Here's some pics of the rebuild of Bo's top end that Kostya and I did. I don't know what that gray stuff was that came out of that motor but it was nasty and smelled bad too

Anyway Bo, the long block is all buttoned up, except someone (i.e. you) need to scrape all the old gasket off the drain plate hole on the bottom of the motor, who ever "worked" on that motor before sure liked RTV, lol.

tonight I was able to remove the gas tank completely from the bus. In the next few days I'll get it cleaned out and then back in so we can stab in the engine

Anyone ever installed an engine in a baywindow? We'll get it figured out. :help:
