So as most of you know, the family and I have picked up another 60 to build up as a family project. My stepson Xander wants this to be his first car, so that means we have roughly 1 1/2 years to complete it by his 16th birthday. Obviously our goal is not to build a show car, but simply a clean driver.
A little history on how we found this car since it was never advertised for sale. We ended up with a motorcycle in our move. I have no interest in motorcycles and really didn't know what to do with it. It was an 82 Suzuki KS1100 that was pretty much in pieces.

I thought about putting up a trade or barter ad on Craigslist, but before I had a chance Dylan let me know about this car. This car was once owned by both Dylan and also Doug and Candi. The current owner had lost interest in it and was thinking about getting rid of it. He is interested in bikes and after a handful of texts and emails a deal was struck. The bike with no title, even trade for the bug, sitting on a 55 pan, with a 61 pan with title included. Here are some of the pics we got of it.

When we finally got a chance to actually see it in person, I noticed a bunch of rust issues with the body. Nothing horrible mind you, package tray, heater channels, both aprons, and rear bumper mounts are the worst areas. I pointed these out to Dawn and voiced my concerns. After much discussion we decided we had nothing to lose and have jumped in feet first. At this point in the game we have less then $10 total in the car. That is all about to change real quick though. We have started working on the 61 pan and are picking up pan halves this weekend.

Our first goal is to get pan halves done and get the body over on to that pan, and sell (or scrap) the 55 pan. From there we will move on to body work. More as progress happens.

Great project! Xander will proud no matter how it turns out. Because he built it. With some help of course.

Sweet, nice project for you guys!
Don't scrap that '55 pan! At least put it on the Samba or something and give someone a chance to get an early pan 8-)

Damn straight it was. I still have to get with Josh to pickup those front and rear clips he has. My guess is its about 90% complete, only missing a few small parts.

That is what we are hoping. He is also doing all the paying for parts (with some exceptions) so he is learning the value of $$$ also.

Don't worry not gonna scrap it. I have no idea what its worth but any money will go back into the car.
