Got some real bad new the other day that may have turned out for the best. I bought my bug with little or no knowledge of VWs and have paid the price over and over. I flipped my chassis over the other day and saw that the chassis was pieced together. What a kill joy!!

Little to say I got rid of it. It's still a great chassis just not for my project. I kept my rear end, torsions, spring plates and beam but the chassis already has a new home. I have a new chassis that will be powder coated gloss black and will be here shortly but in the meantime, I am cleaning up everything else.

Took of beam apart and sand blasted all the hard to reach areas. Then I primed, painted and cleared it.

Unless there was welding done around the tunnel and not just below I bet it was just a repair job done with the fuel lines or clutch tube. I likely wouldn't have scrapped it just because of that. Maybe have a welder make the necessary repairs and move on.

Actually guys the tunnel on top was also welded. St. Thomas is small so getting the history on VWs that been here a while is pretty easy to get. I found out the guy who owned the car the chassis came from was in a very bad accident. Even though it was fixed back and can be used, I think it may have been two chassis mended together. There is a weld that run all the way down the tunnel on the passenger side and driver side. I got a chassis for free in excellent condition and sold that one for the cost to have it powdercoated. I kinda lucked out really.

Got the final clear on the car this weekend. Just gonna let it sit for a few weeks and let the paint cure before we buff it. Also got the new chassis I am getting back from the welder. The original owner used rivets and caulking to attached the floors. I had the pan halves removed and welded and I also moved the seat rails back a few inches. 6'-4" people problems......lol w:pw Its to the powder coater today and should be shipped to St. Thomas USVI sometime next week. Very excited.
