I think that your rear wheels are the keystone to your car. For me, they put it all together, at the same time, they set the car apart from similar ones.

love it 8-)

Plus, now that you have all that muscle in there, the extra rubber will come in handy

Those are funny! Yeah, I definitely don't heart speed bumps, or any other types of bumps for that matter...

As most of you probably know by now I'm having some fuel delivery problems. It's the craziest thing. When you fire up the car cold it seems to have fine fuel pressure, but as you drive it drops more and more to the point it says "0" on the gauge and the car runs like its running out of gas. Brand new Holly "Red" pump, rebuilt "red" regulator, all new lines and fuel filters. I pulled the regulator apart and it is perfect inside, I took apart the fuel pump and it looks fine, it's getting 12+ volts, the gas tank is not getting pulled to a vaccuum... Right now the only thing I can think of is that the motor on the pump is defective. That pump is supposed to be good for about 425 hp and 6 psi. Other than that, everything looks perfect, it's very frustrating...

After some research and talking to John Connoly it looks like I just need to add a return-style regulator after the fuel pump. That high volume pump doesn't like getting choked down to 3 PSI and the small flow rate it takes to cruise in a bug, the return regulator will let the pump run at full output and just send the excess fuel back to the tank... Hopefully I can have it all back together by Saturday, just need to pick up the regulator and some fittings...

When you rebuilt the reg. you should have gone with the kit that you can knock the pressure 5 psi & below Alot of people don't know about that kit and some does that have ran them for years. One my IDA's I ran 3 to 3.5 psi from the reg. to carbs and 7-8 psi from the tank to reg. Damn I had a kit few months ago, but I gave it away. Their around $8.00

So whats your psi from the tank (pump) to the regulator? But what your using on your car I've ran on my daily driver, but with a blue pump. The red doesn't have a good track record with VW's and V8 racer, but some love them. If your needing any help with the fuel system let me know and I'll help you out anything.

The red pump puts out about 7 psi, and I had it regulated just before the carbs with a red regulator to 3 PSI (yes, I used the right rebuild kit...). I guess the red pump just doesn't like having it's flow restricted that much and is overheating or something, after driving for a while the pump wouldn't even put out 3 psi... Yeah, I ran a blue pump in the past with a similar set up and never had problems with it. When I ran the blue pump I went from it to a blue regulator, from the blue regulator to the NOS system and to a red regulator, and then from the red regulator to the carbs. I think just putting in the return style regulator is going to solve the problem because then the red pump can basically flow at max flow all the time which should keep it from being overworked.

I've never ran a blue reg. I've always used the red with the blue pump. What size is your fuel line? Did you check for trash in your filter too?

I was told by Holley tech support that a blue pump would overwhelm a red regulator. Sounds like from your experience that's not the case. That was how I had it plumbed at first, then I got to thinking about it and asked them and they told me the red regulator couldn't handle the blue pump's 14 psi. So at that point I switched to the red pump thinking all would be well. The fuel line is 8AN from the pump to the regulator on the firewall and then 6AN to each carb. I know its overkill, but eventually I am going to convert the car to EFI/Turbo, so then I will need the gigantic capacity, and I will also run a 6AN return line from the back of the car to the tank at that point too. Everything in the fuel system is new, and I checked the filters when I started having problems, not a single piece of debris in either of them. I really like the idea of the return-style regulator though, It makes way more sense to me to let the pump do its thing at full capacity and then only use the amount of fuel the car needs at any time and send the rest back to the tank, rather than limit the amount of fuel the pump can put out. All limiting the pump's output like that is going to do is cause it to work harder and generate more heat, and it seems in the case of a red pump at least to become horribly inefficient. So the plan is to add the return regulator right after the pump (under the gas tank) and set that pressure to about 4-5 psi, then back in the engine compartment fine tune the pressure to 3 psi with the red regulator right before the carbs.
