Does anyone in Houston use a car cover to keep the dust off their VW while parked in your garage?

I have been anti car-cover since I was 16. I had one, it rained and I didn't take it off quick enough after the sun came out. It got all steamy underneath and caused a lot of the chrome to surface rust

My issue with the notchback is that I rarely get to take it out, and every time I do, I find myself having to at least use the quick spray detailer on it, just from dust while sitting in the garage. It's still humid even in the garage sometimes, which scares me - I don't want to shell out a bunch for a cover just to ruin the car. It does get a few drops of water on it when it's raining and the garage door is wet when rolled up. Oh, another factor. I have a side window on the garage - sun beats down on its passenger side all day as it moves across the sky. It's old quality single stage, but I do have a little concern that where the sun hits everyday, it could sun-fade.

little paranoid - maybe. It is a really nice car though and I don't want to contribute to deterioration

Have you tried a car duster that is what I use to remove that light from the bus to get it for a ride.

you'd have to have keys to my land lords car and truck, and his roommates car - plus whoever the roommate invited over that parks behind the other 3

The duster does work, but not until they are old and dirty - then they seem to work better. I should probably buy one and start dusting neighbors cars first...

I have a cover I use at times. Keeps dust out. I never get it wet. So no issues there.

i use plastic here at the shop. Clear painters plastic 12' by 400ft cheep enough to throw away. if you buy some magnets you can use them on the inside of the body to hold plastic in place.

Yeah, all the detailers and paint shops use that very thin plastic. Car covers scratch your paint... Ask me how I know :x :x I'm not sure how it would do with the Houston humidity?? I would try some. Just tape it in places and leave it open at the bottom for airflow. Check it for moisture a few weeks later. I won't use a car cover unless it's crappy paint anyway..

Yeah, I used to use painters tarps in Sacramento, but the humidity here in Houston scares me. That gave me an idea though, Maybe 2 cotton bed sheets sewn together, and folded from both of the outer edges in. That way I can just set it on the top of the car, unfold the front, unfold the back, use magnets to keep it from sliding around too much and scratching the paint...

I may give it a try. I actually got it out of the garage and drove it a bit Saturday and it was freakin filthy dusty
