I am starting to think this is the og engine. I'm clueless taking this thing apart so far but it has been fun. End play appears to be due to warn shims. Bearings seem to pop in tight for all but first one from the main one by the flywheel. Surprised how light the case halfs are when apart :geek:

Bought this tool on Amazon to remove stuck head stud. Tried the double nut, even triple nut method with some heat and no luck. This worked so nice and easy, didn't mess up the stud either

Nope, it not OG. The dates are too far apart. That's a May '59 engine.... your chassis is July '59. Not OG is a negative, I get it. But, although 36-ers are cool, the bigger negative is:
- A 36-er in a Beetle is annoyingly slow
- A 36-er in a Bus would be RIDICULOUSLY slow.

I would look at the positives here:
Since it's not OG, you are freed up to do something different with a clear conscience. Get Tommy to build you a nice torquey motor like what's in your DC, and make it WAY more enjoyable to drive 8-)

Thanks ScottyG!

Bummer on the non og engine, I was just trying to figure it out, where did you find the date code info on it? Most of the engine parts are at brothers now, so I guess I am pot committed at this point with it. Tommie is super busy anyway, maybe in the future we could switch it up. I love the 2110 in my double cab.

Although it has been a fun learning process with the 36hp so far. Been eyeballing that WW OKRASA kit, not sure if it will help that much in a bus.

Thanks!

It won't help enough :| It's expensive for what gains you get.... especially after you spend the extra money with Mr. Okrasa to work over the cheapo Chinese carbs that come with the kit to make them work right :-(

Just stick with the stock 36-er for now. It's a cool motor, for sure. Depending on how you use the Bus, that engine may be just fine.

The link to the VIN/chassis info is here: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/chassisdating.php
