Thanks everyone for the welcome. I live in Conroe, near the lake.

I found the wheels on dallas craigslist. I paid $600. The PO had them for track wheels for his 2000 carrera. I think they came off a 993, not sure what year. The fronts are 7.5", the backs are 9". Getting them to fit does involve some work but its not impossible.

To make the wheels work I had to cut the body for tubs and cut a small section on the pan. Here is a picture of the torsion housing (sub frame). It shows the IRS bracket tack welded. The torsion assembly still needs to be narrowed approx 2" per side. The bearing housing on the trailing arm will be moved in 1" (which puts it at the short axle width)(if anyone has seen tom's notch ...http://home.att.net/~tomnotch/page4notch.html he is running modified TAs). Shock mount, stopper and spring plate attachment moved in as well. I am using the 24-11/16 torsion bars with late model spring plates for 26-9/16" bars which works out to the approx 2".

Thats all it takes  This is the second torsion housing I've modified. I completely built another but I'm not confident in the weld quality. Which is why I sold Ethan my 110v welder. Im steping up to a Millermatic 180 which will have plenty of power to penetrate the thicker material.

If I may ask where did you find the wheels and how much?

I upgraded my welder. Its a Millermatic 180, 180 amps, 11lb spool, 122cuft bottle, rated to weld 5/16" in a single pass. I have more confidence welding the critical stuff like IRS brackets, torsion housing, etc.

I had to install a 220v outlet in the garage. The breaker box is on the garage wall so it was pretty easy. I also installed a 20A 110v circuit for my compressor.

Only a small amount of progess on the car, mostly getting the shop setup.

This picture shows the positioning bar i welded in place temporarly to get the shock tower alightment correct. The idea is when I cut the torsion housing it can slide along the guide. Its fairly easy to keep the torsion tube concentric with angle iron. Tacked on one side <O> and sliding over the other side.. I'll take pictures.

One side cut and narrowed. The bearing housing on the trailing arm needs to be moved in 1". The 1" gives it the same length as a short axle (swing). I may end up building my own arms to remove the camber. The pictures show the passenger side arm on the drivers side. It has alittle positive camber at ride height. The drivers side trailing arm has to much negative camber with the car lowered.
