The 55 has been my daily driver since I moved, the weather is just too nice out here not to drive it every day. My commute is only about 4.5 miles each way and on surface streets, so its a nice short drive, with plenty of stoplights for terrorizing unsuspecting yuppies
I believe I have found the source of the vibrations that happen when the car is driven on the highway for 10 min or more: the fulcrum plates are trying to seize. Someone on STF had the same problem. Looks like the engine and tranny will be coming out when we get a new place with a proper garage and I am reunited with all my tools and equipment. In the mean time, I have started jetting the carbs. I got the idle jet sorted out, it's at about 13.5-14:1 now during cruise on the idle circuit, just where I wanted it. Should get great gas millage now below 3k rpm. Just a few minutes ago I swapped in one size smaller main jets to start leaning that circuit out. I have a feeling I will need to go at least one more jet size, but this should give me a start in the right direction. I will probably pick up another 10+ hp across the board once I get the jetting dialed in. Look out yuppies! :redguy:

No, the fulcrum plates are the things that go in the side gears of the dif that the axle spades rotate in.

No, not those either. They are about 2" long, and kind of half-moon shaped. they go in the side gears first, then the axle spades go it. They are what allows the axle to articulate while rotating.
