OK so an update.

obtained a vacuum advance for the stock FI distributor and installed. Luckily my ict's had a vacuum source for it.
repaired a vacuum leak at the base of the ict's and synced them. they run like ass when cold and once in a while pop off idle. once warm popping almost totally gone and it runs well. need to check what jets are in them for sure! maybe a tad lean at idle.
got the electrical working by using a dremel and wire wheel on the fuse block. now all lights working but for the right turn signal I have to wiggle the lever a bit so i'll need to dig in to that one.

So took her out for a spin around the block. runs good, stops good, no mysterious rattles or other goofieness.

plates and reg up next. so about 34 days of ownership and I'm rolling. slower than expected but I've worked 12 straight 13hour night shfits in there so probably not too bad I guess.

next off to the windshield wipers. they are no-op and I picked up a whole setup from a 1970. I'd like to ditch the crappy setscrew style arms!

I'm with ya already...here is my maint log so far. notice 7/24/08. will probably go one more click up front. will lower the rear when i drop the modified subframe in. i picked up an extra SA subframe to weld in the pivots. i already have an IRS trans and diag arms sitting in the garage. one problem arose...I found a notch i will most likely buy. So once the square is running good enough to drive all $$$ goes in to the notch.

7/18/2008 installed wheel cylinders, adjusted 009 for type3 setup.
7/19/2008 installed new brake hoses, bled brakes
7/20/2008 adjusted valves./ rough sync carbs set idle.
7/24/2008 rebuilt calipers, bled brakes, lowered front 2 clicks. undercoated wheel wells/cleaned fuel tank.
7/25/2008 installed fuel tank, hooked up fuel lines.
7/26/2008 installed og dist, timed final sync carbs.
7/31/2008 installed air filters
8/9/2008 changed oil/checked compression 1-132,2-140,3-148,4-132
8/14/2008 installed headers
8/16/08 installed muffler
8/17/2008 installed aluminum heat tubes. Removed axle's/trans from IRS subframe.
8/22/2008 installed vacuum advance, hose, fixed vacuum leak on carb
8/23/2008 repaired all external lights.
8/24/2008 removed cracked windshield, found surface rust. started prep for new windshield.

Your spark plugs might be fouled. I think that is what is causing the popping and running like ass when cold.

funny I just noticed. I made that entry about 4am today in my log...guess i farged that up. that means yesterdays entry is incorrec too. not always thinking straight when working nights. :) I try and go to bed with the family but about 3-4am I cannot sleep. I hit the garage. neighbors probably think I'm a meth addict. always up at 4am in the garage. when they leave for work at 6am I'm up with the garage open and lights on. No power tools til at least 9am though. Hey I'm thoughtful!

plugs are new. it only pops when going to WOT from idle. wondering about timing. set it at TDC but that was the FI spec. I have a FI dizzy with dual ICT 34's. maybe need to try 7.5ish where the carb spec is?

Any thoughs as to what everyone else is running. i'm surely not the only ict ex-FI car.

i just attributed the running like as as being due to no chokes. once warmed up, like til the end of the block, it idles and runs good every once in a while it will pop.. also I do not have a balance tube in the intake manifolds. I don't have a tap set, only thread chasers so i need to get some before adding the balance tube.

that's most likely it, it will definitely run leaner when cold due to fuel condensation. Mine runs about a whole AR ratio unit leaner when cold since I don't have chokes. Doesn't take long to warm up though. Good work so far, keep it up!
