looks great! What did you use?

Thanks! :)

Primarily a "Fine" wire wheel brush on a die grinder and a miniture version on a dremel for the tight spaces.

I picked up a 1" brass end wire brush and a couple of end wire brushes for the dremel.

As long as I use light and even pressure, the wire brushes do not leave scratches or swirls in the soft mag/alum alloy. Too bad the shiny surface won't stay if left uncoated...

Be carefull with the dremel brushes. Wear an apron when working with them. When they disinigrate they embed into your shirt poking you! I know this from experience.....I pulled a few from my fleshy middle section....like an ingrown hair, but metal. It sucked. Sorry for the visual :X

I definitely know what your speaking of. I do wear an apron (my lucky cannondale apron from my bikeshop days :) ) & safety glasses

Ok, here are some pics of what I have been doing so far. Looking forward to completing the long block assembly this weekend!

Here is a shot of the cleaned case
Image

Here I am drilling the required hole (13/32") for the 12mm (O.D.) 8mm (I.D.) case savers, by hand! I was so stressed out on the first couple but then I was able to get the 'feel' of it...

Blowing out the shavings...

Starting the tap...
Image

Squaring up the tap with one of my recently acquired precision tools; a Starrett combo square...
Image
Image

Tapping...
Image

I used a ratchet closed wrench to turn the tap (carefully) because there was not enough room to use the tap wrench...
Image

Inserting the Case Saver into the recently tapped stud hole...

More to come soon!

You're doing a great job. Kinda scary drilling into a case, looks like you got it though

Nice work ... What does it cost to have that done at a machine shop?
