Back from the dead. We didn't move to Lafayette. Since the price of oil and natural gas has fallen so much it was decided that it was best to stay in Houston.
The body work on the shell is finished. I need to spray over the filler with epoxy again to lock everything down. Then I'm starting on the decklid, hood, fenders and doors. After the everything is in epoxy I'll start on the cage. Then epoxy the cage, then start on filler primer and block sanding everything.
Shell in epoxy primer now, no body work in this picture. Everything was taken to bare metal and sprayed with epoxy. Epoxy is supposed to lock the base metal down so that moisture cant penetrate it. Filler is place ontop of the epoxy.
All finish work done on the dash. I installed the windshield after the filler work was done to see if there were going to be any issues with the seal and how well everything fit together. I think it came out pretty good. One thing that bothers me a little is the gauge cluster. The 5" hole on the right sits slightly below the one on the left. If you look close enough you will see the material between the 2-1/16 hole and the 5" holes is different. Defect in the dash or intended to be like that? I read on the samba that installing the windshield is a 2-3 man job. I did this in about 15 minutes by myself. I have done alot of t1 windows, this was no different.
Vents in front of the windshield were welded up and filler work done. PITA. I did use the full length block when shaping the filler.
JD2 Model 32 tubing bender, w/ 1.625" 5.5" CL die. With the die it much weight 100lbs. I need to build a stand. I consider building one that fit into the trailer hitch on my truck.
