I was finally able to open up the front part of the gear box. Thanx for the tips Ethan. I haven't opened a book yet. Just guess and go! The gear stack itself looks ok, but there is a gear in a carrier that has been riding at a f'ed up angle and grinding brass! I hope to be able to steal one from the '61 tranny I have.

I got started on tearing down the '61 tranny. Why the fuck these things gotta be all nasty and gunked up! It took almost 2 hours to find the nutz! :furious:

I had to cut the axel bearing off.....PITA!

And the inside was ALOT cleaner, BUT.......

Something has been flying around in here! Can you imagine the noise?!

So far the inside isn't looking too good......

I hope the gear stack looks better!

I managed to get the '61 tranny open. It's super clean!........but I found out why the car was parked! As was shown in the previous pix the output shaft was missing. It was sheared off! Nice clean cut. I am guessing that is what was flying around in the R&P housing. These are the side by side pix. The '61 has a "A" after the part number and the '67 has a "B". I will be able to use the gear and carrier from the '61 to make the '67 tranny good. Lots of brake cleaner and compressed air should do the trick. I would rather use the gear stack from the '61, but that output shaft is sheared off and it looks to be a bitch to swap from one to the other, if at all.

So far none of this work has been hard. Quite easy actually once I figured out how it came apart. I hope Kermit has a gasket kit.

You are brave! Nice work  . I don't know how you manage to find time to do stuff with your crazy-ass schedule.
