my 2 cents, for what its worth, i could care less about winning a trophy. not that my car could win one. i go and show to see my friends especially ones from across a distance that i dont get to see often or meet those that i have been talkin with for so long. i pay entry to help do my part to keep the show going and to def help when alot of these shows actually donate money. for some reason to get all these people together, you have to call it a show and give something away, to get many people to show up. i would prefer to call the get togethers and have the same people show up, but that is not reality. these events cost money to put on, way more than the club coalition donates. most of the money that the clubs donate finally makes its way to steve the weekend of the show, so out of steves pocket comes all the trophies, t-shirts and all the cool stuff they give away at the free raffles.
i say if you want a trophy given to you by a judge you need to go to an organized event like autorama as that is a business, which most of the cars that go to vw shows cannot compete with the full time show cars in these types of circuits and would not win a trophy anyways or you can go to the failing ennis show (of which i was a judge back in the day). all the big vw events with judges are put on by companies/organizers, like bugorama and such, not clubs or people just doing it for the love of it. vw people either bitch because a company comes in and wants to put on a show (like crankshaft got a full ear for) or they bitch about the judges. its a lose lose situation. someone is always gonna complain.
i win a trophy every time someone just tells me i have a nice car. i say lets get together, forget about the trophies, except the ones we drive and have a blast!
The first three years the Texas VW Classic had real judges, I liked it better that way. A judge will look at the build, from the ground up. People's choice might see cool seats in a VW that came out of a mustang. And vote for the cool seats, and the vw is entered in a stock class.
I've seen it happen!
