well gotta clean up the tank firewall, but the tank itself looks great on the outside...

i think 15.9 US gallons if i remember right.

well i got some work done today. pulled the tank out, stripped it, and cleaned everything...

started with the fuel sending unit and a quick bang out of the tank. man you can tell how deep the tar was on the sender...

even managed to get the fuel "sock" out with no tears, but a bit filthy

and of course while all that crap was soaking,
i took a little time to do a light spruce up in the engine compartment...

the tank is being steamed tomorrow by a good buddy, who also gave me a nos vw
34 pict 3 carb... score.
updates when i get the tank back

Awsome Job! I feel the pain when it comes to cleaning gas tanks. Mine was parked in '82(were you born yet?), with 3/4 full! The smell had a few of us gaging! :X :X :X You could smell it down the street........
