So this guy Eddie is In Downtown Dallas somewhere. He also had a 72 Beetle that I was interested in for my wife (before she found out that beetles dont have A/C). We were actually on the way to look at it when she found that out. Anywhoo...I talked to Eddie on the phone and he told me that these cars had been in storage for the last 15 years somewhere in Dallas. They were used as evidence in accident cases involving VWs. Apparently someone in an accident with a vw would try to sue Volkswagen and these cars are exact duplicates of the cars that were involved in the wrecks. There was this gold oval, the green 72 that I was looking at, a type 181, and quite a few others. The cars had to be held in storage for so long after the case was over for some reason or another. After that period Eddie bought them from a lawyer type dude, if I remember correctly. The cars seemed to be in really nice shape other than loads of dust. I never actually got to see any of them but I thought it was an interesting story. Definitely a cool oval. Please don't quote me if you talk with Eddie, but that's the gist of the story he told me. He has more info. Someone go get that oval!
Thanks for sharing the story!
