I actually thought about just lightly wetsanding the OG paint and polishing it out. Decided against it since the PO sanded all of the paint off of the roof, as well as a large spot on the hood (which must have been replaced with a hood from a Java Green car at some point and painted to match). Oh well...

Just got back the 2332 I built for my car back in high school

Gonna go through and clean it up, strip what's left of the old red paint off the case, do a little port work on the heads and intake manifolds and replace whatever it needs as I go along. I'd imagine that it'll seem a bit faster pushing around a '67 sedan, as opposed to the '78 super vert it was in back in the day.

I also aquired a pro-street trans, with all the goodies, that was built several years ago, but never ran (the red one). Only problem is that the case the PO used has a small crack and corrosion pitting at the bottom of the bellhousing (under where the flywheel would be).

Here's my question for anyone with trans building experience...

How hard would it be to swap over the guts and HD sideplates to my OG '67 trans? It's is all cleaned up and ready for paint, and the case is in perfect condition. I'd also be swapping out to the short axles at the same time.

It is fairly easy to do once you figure out how to get the thing apart. I R&R'd a '67 trans for my '60. You need a good set of circlip pliers. Get a box of latex gloves and a box of disposible shop rags. I used brake cleaner to rinse out the cavities and compressed air. Good luck....

Any idea where I can find the torque requirements for the trans nuts and bolts? Also, during reassembly of the case sections, do you just install the gasket kit dry?

Planning to go out and get to work on this trans in a minute after the kiddos lay down...anyone have feedback on the above questions? I wanna make sure I do this right and only have to do it once.

I installed mine gaskets dry. As for the torque, I did mine to 10 lbs then to 15 then 20 I think. I was just guessing though....

You were right, the trans was fairly easy to get apart...once I figured out how the input shaft connects to the mainshaft. Luckily everything inside the red trans was in perfect shape, and obviously rebuilt at one point without ever being driven. Is there anyway I can tell what the gearing is, specifically the ring and pinion, before I go stuffing everything into my '67 case?

Asuming its stock and nothing interchanged, you could look it up on theSamba in the tech sections using the serial number from the case.

Got the guts from the prostreet trans cleaned up and re-lubed, and assembled into my '67 case with all new gaskets and input shaft seal. Has heavy duty 3rd and 4th gears, super diff and I installed a beefed up throw out bearing arm. None of it was as much of a chore as I was afraid it would be. I painted everything before installing the diff so I would get paint on the purdy aluminum side plates.

I haven't taken any more pictures yet, but I've since installed a set of short axles (to replace the '67 long axles), seam sealed the chassis where I welded in the new pans and painted a few of the removeables (spring plates, trans mount, etc). Still have to cleanup, paint and install the axle tubes before I start re-assembly of the chassis and putting all of my new parts to use.
