Yeah I would like to get some folks over to knock this engine install out in an afternoon. I'll keep it updated.

Really like the bus. Did they happen to tell you how a 71 ended up with a Type 4 motor? You dont see someone do that very often. Very very cool. 71's are the best year IMHO.

Yeah the guy I bought it from did the conversion himself with the help of a VW engine builder friend of his. It was well done. The motor is kinda crammed in there but nicely sealed up. I'm nervous about putting it all back together. I hope I get it all back in right and sealed up. The motor had all kinds of get up and go before the valve seats failed. I want to prevent this from happening again so I'm doing it all while I have it out.

Wow. What type engine seal does it use? Type 4, Type 1 or a combination? Was there a lot of metal cut out?

Ha. it was actually pipe insulation placed in between the engine tin and the body. Simple, yet effective.

So some more delay on my bus heads. The PO emailed me a few days ago and said that the machinists found two exhaust valves bent in the heads so they are replacing themas well. Im probly not gonna make the Transporters show on the 10th. I dont want to rush it and half ass it. So the waiting continues.....

I got an email today from the PO. The heads are on the way back! I should get them next Wednesday. I'll post up when I get them back and what day I decide to put it all back together.
