those chambers look really small, it that normal for a type IV head to have that little volume?

Well...The motor is back together and back in....however.....I've been reading up on some Type 4 head issues and have just about talked myself into pulling it all back apart..... :furious: When I took it all apart originally there were no head gaskets or "sealing rings" as they are called. when I went back together with it yesterday I added the sealing rings that came with the gasket set. Doing some reading tonight and found this:

"Head Gaskets:

This topic probably stirs up more argument that any other wrt heads. In the 1990's VW released a tech bulletin that among other things recommended the removal of the shim gasket between the head and the cylinder. This gasket is actually made from several thinner gaskets pressed together and when one layer shrinks and burns through a gap forms that allows the combustion gases to escape resulting in eventual head failure."

Damn....

Not sure what to do at this point.

Did some work on the Loaf today. Went and bought rebuilt kits for my weber and a snail tool to sync them when i get to that point. I got one of the carbs rebuilt. It was kinda cruddy inside so I hope the rebuild will do it good. I plan on doing the other one at work tomorrow. Gotta love downtime at the fire station....
