OK, the workday is on the 26th, it's the Sat. after the classic, i hope you can all make it 8-)

Update-

well I got the heads pulled off my engine. I don't see any rust on the rings, but I haven't tried to remove the cylinders yet either. It looks like this is a bearing problem. So I'm going to start calling Billy 'Miss Cleo' because all along he said that it was a bearing issue. Way to go Billy

I'll let you know what happens. Everytime it looks like I have an hour to work on something, something comes up and I don't get to do anything on the bus :x

Bearing issue doesn't make any sense, unless they guy was lying when he said it turned over freely when he put the engine up for storage. Anyway, let me know if you need any help 8-)

You won't believe this. Like I said, I didn't take the cylinders off, I was just looking and didn't see rust. Well, right after I posted I went to the garage and tried to take off the flywheel. I had my cheater bar and after a few tugs, it started turning over. what it did was push the cylinders out of the case, so, at least one of them is stuck in the cyl. We'll get it figured out, just give me time.

So, Billy, you're off the hook, no Miss Cleo for you.

Told you ;)

Got the jugs and pistons off. I'll wait till I have good light in there to access the situation. I'll probably swing by Billy's or Ethan's (If ya'll don't mind) to get ya'lls opinion.

Everything looks ok. I'd like to install a 'full flow' oil filter. I'm not even sure if that's what it's called. I want the kind that Ethan had to buy a dog collar for. Know what I'm talking about??

Also, I started taking the rings off the old pistons. The piston that had the rusted rings actually will be very hard to remove the old rings. It seems like they're stuck in there. I read somewhere about boiling the piston for like 20 minutes to loosen the rings so I can get them out. Anyone ever tried this?

Looking forward to the workday this Sat :ugeek:

I'm not sure I can make it to this one. We have to perform Ukrainian dances at a festival at noon :| .

I have never torn down an aircooled engine but in the past I have used ring pliers which spread the ring to get them off if they break it shouldnt be a problem as long as you dont break a ring land I think thats what its called been a while since I have done an engine

Update:

No workday this Sat.

I did a little work on the bus tonight. I finished scraping the old tint (mirror tint) off the side rear windows. I bought a full length rear side window off of thesamba for the driver's side. My bus originally came with a short window with a vent wing. I don't plan on going back to camper, so the vent window is gone. Someone also caulked the hell out of the window frame in the sliding door. I spent an hour getting the old caulk out with a razor blade. :furious:

I got a new american made windshield in today. Looks like good quality. Some of you know what happened to me last Sat. I guess I'll share.

I went down to Kermits (with both my boys) and bought a windshield. Brought it home. Before I found a place for it, it shattered. It was made in China and was cheaply manufactured.

Luckily, there's Jack's Glass on Kuykendal. Keith found a baywindow windshield and had it at his place the very same day. As I said, it's american made and seems to be better quality. Needless to say, I was very careful putting it away. It does have the tint stripe across the top, but I'm not picky, I'll run it. Oh yeah, it was the same price as the Chinese one.
