OK, here goes. Back in May I drove more than 3,000 miles to bring one spectacular Bug back to the wilds of northern Michigan. It was an epic 73-hour down-and-back road trip - it's surprising how many gas stations aren't open at 3 a.m. We drove through 12 different states (damn I-80 construction) and I slept through at least two of them - only one while driving.

Anyways, John A. - who did the heavy lifting on this car - intrusted me to write the Bug's next chapter. I promised him I wouldn't wrap those gas burner rims in snow tires this winter.

For those unfamiliar with John's 64 thread here are the quick specs on this sweet 64 metal sunroof:

1835cc
Engle 110 cam
CW crank and rods
Forged pistons
big valve heads
full flowed and external filter
weber 44 idfs
Bosch 010 dizzy
4-inch narrowed beam w/drop spindles
KCR transaxle

The list goes on with this ride. My plans at this point are pretty simple: don't f-up the car. This is my first VW. I've owned/lived in other vintage rides: 63 Ford Ranchero, 72 Pontiac LeMans, 74 Buick Regal, 54 Buick Special and a 78 Chevette I'd rather not talk about.

However, I've always had a thing for Bugs - I'm finally acting on my disorder. Plus, my wife was probably conceived in a micro Bus; her family had 5 micros, one Bug and a Rabbit that let go part of a floor pan at 55 mph.

I plan to hit a few local car shows in the next two weeks - before the snow starts flying here. I'll post photos/video and no dout lame, noob questions from time to time on this thread. Please bear with my ignorance.

Thanks. I'm trying to post some photos, but the files are too big.

OK, figured it out. It's late Michigan time.

Here is one more older photo. Will post more later.

Do you still have the "dLk" sticker in the back window?
