The 12" disc sander with 80 grit is what I use at the shop. I also put the bolt in a Makita drill and hold it flat against the base of the sander's table. Then I make a pass with the deburring wheel, a few passes on the surfacing stone with 180 grit wet , and straight to polish. Takes about 30 seconds or less per bolt to get the letters of this way. It's faster than setting them up on the lathe. If you can find someone with one of these sanders to borrow, it will make quick work out of the bolts.

The boy hand polished the ribs and added BBQ sauce inside the case!

Looks great  finished reading today, I should have had a notebook to write all my questions down.....I forgot most of them.

Where did you get the rubbing stone from?
Is that that the original transmission that you did all the detail work too?

The rubbing stone I bought from Tandy Leather.
The transmission was built by Rancho it is not the original.
