I just finished typing and the post is a lot longer than I intended. I have so many questions regarding how the VW fits into the car scene, both with restoration and on the show scene.
I hope (and ask) that you read it all so I can understand things better. Sorry if I am being long winded, so many questions, and the more I search for answers the more questions I have, I also have a folder for all the saved websites that I need to read.
Progress has been slow as I have had to do things around the house and I have been collecting some supplies so I can continue work. I have also been cleaning the garage so I can work on the car. I was out the other day cleaning up and took some shots of the motor that came with the car....the numbers on the case are 8817893,
I have (for a while) been thinking of what I want to do engine wise.
Do I keep it and try to get it running so I have some extra cash and time to build something proper?
Do I keep it so I can go original and put some old school aftermarket upgrades on it?
Do I keep it just in case I ever feel like going original?
Do I just say "Frak It!!!" and build something on a 1600 case that would be fun and more suited for modern driving?
Or do I just go ahead and let some random guy take it

....and no I was not winking at you.
I admit that if it goes in storage just in case I ever want it that I most likely will never put it in the car. I grew up in a car world where having the original engine (or one that could have been original because of the date codes) is a big deal.
Honestly how big of a deal is it in the VW world?
It seems that the likeliness of having an original engine is low and it seems that having an original engine does not make a difference in the show scene.
So the importance for me is the value in having it because of any value it could have for me involving resale value and the value that that person puts on it for winning shows or just winning the pissing match with other V dubber's.
The value that other VW folks put into things.....the value of a three fold over a two fold over a metal sunroof..Split over oval over late fifties, early sixties, mid 60's, over late 60's, over fat chicks, over super beetles.....the list go's on and on. So where does the possibility of having an original engine fall in all the jumble.......Especially when people are grafting rag tops onto their cars.
And here are the pictures......I can remove things and take better pictures if needed.
