Billy I didn't forget. Just saw your truck wasn't there and pressumed you were working. Trust me I am sure I'll be calling when I'm putting it back in. I might forgot to hook up the throttle cable or something :D

Oh hell no, I'm not serious!!! I was trying to be sarcastic maybe I should have used this :bs: on my reply as well. Even I know enough to stay away from GEX.

.....And I know you had no choice in the matter Mike, but if it makes you feel better this is what GEX has to say about their turn key engines.

"For the discriminating person that would rather turn wheels than wrenches, GEX Turn Key Performance Volkswagen Engines provide a simple, cost effective, alternative to countless greasy hours of work. From the stock 1600 cc to the killer 2275 performance street screamer, we have the expertise to make it go faster, farther, quicker and longer."

I would give my engine if I could.......but I doubt you want a 40hp that does not turn.

Well after a bunch of reading today about GEX (I have known for ages they suck) I do have some positive hopes now. One of the biggest problems is that they tend to use mismatched case halves. When I bought the car 5 years ago, the PO told me the engine had been redone 5 years prior. I am guessing that 10 years ago they didn't have that issue as I uncovered the casting numbers tonight and they match. Could be why this motor has held up as long as it has. I'm still not gonna split it though...

Fitz....I've been tossing the idea of keeping it just in case I want to use it someday, trying to get it running and using it until I get something built, or giving it to someone who want it. I was just thinking of it yesterday as I cleaned my garage.
How do you know if it is the original engine to the car? and does it matter, it seems there are a lot of show cars rolling around with out their original engines.

Mike.....So are you saying you got a good GEX engine?

I'm not saying that... I'm just saying I got lucky and the case halves match. I'm waiting to hear from the guy that owned it 12 years ago and see what he remembers. He knew when he owned it that it already had the 40 and later trans in it. Maybe he can shed some more light on it.

60Mike, Just being a pain in the ass and poking fun, Not at you....At GEX. It does suck that you have to deal with it. I also remember reading that thread you linked to (or maybe it was another GEX thread and all I can remember think was "How can they still be in business" and I am still thinking it.

Fitz, You still may end up with it anyways. Where would the number be? I will also post some pictures of it on my build thread sometime today (probably later, I have whining bullies waiting for a walk).

If it is a ten year old engine built by GEX then it is fine, if it was a bad build, then it would have lasted hours not years!

Clean her up and tighten her up, should be fine for many more years! :D
