Yea, that would have been a nice car with the right wheels on it :redguy:

Even if he did show up he probably would realize or remember any car being the same color

I KNEW IT!!!!! :hillbilly:

I am about 10 pages in on the "Courtney's 1961 Silver Bullet" so I am kinda figuring the title gives away the ending.....So long any idea of Silver and Red, and even more so if fartfignewtons is gonna roll with a red interior and primer grey or silver.

Time to google the 1965 VW paint chart.

I just finished typing and the post is a lot longer than I intended. I have so many questions regarding how the VW fits into the car scene, both with restoration and on the show scene.

I hope (and ask) that you read it all so I can understand things better. Sorry if I am being long winded, so many questions, and the more I search for answers the more questions I have, I also have a folder for all the saved websites that I need to read.

Progress has been slow as I have had to do things around the house and I have been collecting some supplies so I can continue work. I have also been cleaning the garage so I can work on the car. I was out the other day cleaning up and took some shots of the motor that came with the car....the numbers on the case are 8817893,

I have (for a while) been thinking of what I want to do engine wise.
Do I keep it and try to get it running so I have some extra cash and time to build something proper?
Do I keep it so I can go original and put some old school aftermarket upgrades on it?
Do I keep it just in case I ever feel like going original?
Do I just say "Frak It!!!" and build something on a 1600 case that would be fun and more suited for modern driving?
Or do I just go ahead and let some random guy take it ;) ....and no I was not winking at you.

I admit that if it goes in storage just in case I ever want it that I most likely will never put it in the car. I grew up in a car world where having the original engine (or one that could have been original because of the date codes) is a big deal.

Honestly how big of a deal is it in the VW world?

It seems that the likeliness of having an original engine is low and it seems that having an original engine does not make a difference in the show scene.

So the importance for me is the value in having it because of any value it could have for me involving resale value and the value that that person puts on it for winning shows or just winning the pissing match with other V dubber's.

The value that other VW folks put into things.....the value of a three fold over a two fold over a metal sunroof..Split over oval over late fifties, early sixties, mid 60's, over late 60's, over fat chicks, over super beetles.....the list go's on and on. So where does the possibility of having an original engine fall in all the jumble.......Especially when people are grafting rag tops onto their cars.

And here are the pictures......I can remove things and take better pictures if needed.

It all depends on the style that you like.

My style.
dropped
big motor
rims
stock uncut dash
stock seats

So to me I do not care for an original motor. As far as shows go once you lower it its no longer stock, so to me having a stock motor is just a big paper weight to collect dust in my garage.

Short answer ... I would say what ever makes you happy. I cleaned my 1500 sp up to look stock. It is not the orig motor but it runs and it was easy to cleanup and run it . I would some day like to build something bigger just for the experience.

fyi .. I'll take that motor off your hands .. ;)

here is mine.

Looks like the motor is a July 64 motor. Do you have a Birth Certificate for your car? I agree with whats been said already. Do whatever makes you happy.

A trip to GarageJournal dot com might help with your organization ideas for the garage. I spend hours on that site. Is that a mustang under the car cover?

I actually just registered over there. For a long time I though (and still kinda do) that a lot of guys over there have more money than they know what to do with it, or buy their way to something nice.......I would call it the yuppie car guy with all the shiny tools, perfect looking garage, does not want to get greasy or dirty, farms out the big jobs, and scrubs like hell to get those fingernails all nice and clean. God forbid they work and use what they have and get creative.
....But recently I have been looking over the garage builds and finding some really good ideas.

Freebird, I have been waiting to use one of these :blueguy: or :redguy:. Which one fits better in this situation?

So I am planning to lower it, making it easier to drive (transmission), but want original style interior (uncut dash), different wheels like smoothies or rims, with most likely a narrowed beam (buy one or build one?).

Wayne..... sorry, someone else (Fitz) called dibs which really got my mind running on the idea of what to do.

Fitz, of you take it what are you doing with it? I know it is none of my business, I am just looking for if you are looking to use it asap or in a couple years. The only reason I ask is because it might be nice to see if I can get it running to use it so I can save some cash.......but than if I do that it seems like the money and time to get it running could be better spent on another engine? anyone can answer that last question.
