The Tillotson carb requires more tweeking than a Weber; thankfully I only have one to tune

Starting up the T'NT after spring/summer/fall lay-up is always an adventure; lots of pull-rope swearing and sweating.

The Craigs list guy I bought the 400 motor from put on some unknown late model recoil starter. It's about 80 percent plastic and thus works about 20 percent of the time - if that. The plastic foot is meant to grab the recessed grooves inside the pulley. However, being plastic, it no longer catches but slips over the metal grooves.

I unbolted the recoiler off my 340 motor, and even though a few grooves are worn on the pulley, it turns the motor over each yank.

Pull-start, nice!

The metal pulley works, which is good because I pulled ... and pulled ... and pulled but no go. After spark check, fuel, turn key on (I've done that before ) I finally resorted to shot or two of starting fluid. Few pops but no go.

Pull start and gravity-fed fuel can give your arm a work-out. I was just about ready to shove the sled back in the garage and head off to work when it turned over and died. After a few more pulls she roared back to life after the last ride in March.

The weather forecast is for about 8 inches of snow over the next day or so. I'll post some riding photos (maybe a video).

Yeah, my snowblower is pull-start, too. It starts first pull, but doesn't thrill me at all

Here's proof that the old T'NT does run. Sled fired up after the ninth pull today - no starting fluid. That's pretty good for a '72 pull-start.

I took my daughter around and around our yard - the neighbors love me. You'll notice she's wearing a Barbie helmet in at least one photo; I let her borrow my riding helmet

We have about 6-7 inches in the yard. The forecast is for a hell of a lot more snow over the next 24 hours. They are talking 10-14 inches tonight with another 5-6 inches on Sunday. Oh, and wind gusts between 30-40 mph. Monday looks just as bad.

Looks like I'll have plenty of snow for awhile. I'd have to put studded tires on the VW

FYI: The vintage Ski-Doo patches below are on the snowmobile suit that belonged to my uncle.

I'm pulling my daughter in a plastic Jet-Sled, it's normally used for hauling supplies when you go ice fishing.

Ski-Doo made Ski-Boose pull-behind sleighs. They're pretty cool - and expensive. Most sell on eBay for more than what my snowmobile is worth.
