Crappies are fun, too. Smelt are really glorified minnows (but they taste great) so you're not hauling up lunkers. Since we're talking all-things winter on this thread, maybe I'll post up a photo of my smelt light And yes, some nights we've caught way more buzz than fish

I haven't done it, but the Mich. DNR offers a lottery system for a very limited sturgeon season. I think the "season" lasts only a few hours on 1 or 2 lakes as people try to spear one of these prehistoric monsters. There are several rules governing weight, length, etc.

A lot of guys skip the deep snow and race their snowmobiles on the ice. With a 1,000 cc-plus and a studded track they fly on those long, flat surfaces.

Hey, are you from the Pearland area? I just watched a web video about a Pearland high school football team pulling off a trick play to win a state championship against some Texas powerhouse team.

Not from Pearland but watched that game Saturday night. They beat the number one team in the state and the number one team in the nation using the old Statue of Liberty play to become state champions. They seen it used earlier in the year and practiced it. They could not get the play down so the coach of Pearland called the coach of he team he saw using it and got advice on how to become proficient at it. Looks like they did!

Yep, that was the play. I can't believe the linemen just sat and watched the quarterback go back and heave the ball.

It seems to be the year of the trick play in high school and even middle school ranks.

Santa visited our neighborhood on his boss sled. Instead of 8 tiny reindeer he was pulled by a 400 Rotax. You should have seen the neighbor kids' faces.

No last snowmobile ride for the year (2010). It's rain and 45 deg. today

I tried to go for a ride the other night with my buddy. As these old sled rides often go (or don't) we spent the whole time in the garage trying to get his 1969 Ariens Arrrow to run.

We did get the sled running, but there were some errant sparks coming out from the magneto area. Spark inside the cylinder good - outside, not good It might be a bad wire, after all he did pulled this sled out of a field behind his house.

You'll notice a couple interesting things in the somewhat blurry photo:

The recoil rope broke so he's using the notch-in-the-pulley method; that gets old after 50 pulls.

Yes, he's holding a bottle of Mt. Dew ... filled with gas - don't ask

Also check out his cool handlebars - more than likely they came off a motorcycle or maybe a girl's Schwinn orange crate bike with a banana seat
