When I first bought my 56 back in October, I though that I would do some different things with it, such as lowering/narrowing the front beam and adding a bit of horsepower. The longer I have owned it, the more I am leaning towards leaving it just like it is and enjoying the originality of it. It is by no means the cleanest oval around and probably never will be. So, not sure I can call it a project right now as it will probably roll as you saw it for the first time, with the addition of a few accesories. I will be collecting some correct parts so that if/when the day comes that I do decide to restore it, they will be in my stash of parts.

Just keeping a 50+ year old car on the road is a project in and of itself
Your car's originallity is what makes it cool, I dig it just like it is. That's not to say it wouldn't also be cool slammed and with a giant motor stuffed in back, lol

Love your car Ben. I really dig the polar silver. Your neigbors caddy truck is cool too. 8-)

Have you been driving it any since you put her out at the new place. That thing needs to be driven! Just not over 65 mph, lol

Those are two of my all time fave pictures. Very nice!

Ben, was your oval a standard or did all 56 ovals only have one sun visor?

I have drove it around the block a couple of times. Once we get settled in, it will see it a lot more road action! It actually likes the garage (something it had not seen since moving south  .

That dash picture has always been one of my favorites too. Also, you ask too many damn questions...LOL. I don't think my oval is/was a standard. Just guessing but I think they all came with only one sun visor but I really don't know for sure. I am thinking the 2nd one was an option??? Honestly though, I am going to have to pass along your question about the visor to someone who has more expretise in oval era VW's than me (probably most dLk members...LOL).

They only came with a driver's side visor, the passenger side was an accessory. They were very inexpensive cars, they VW did a lot of little things like that to keep the price down. The Oval dash is the most beautiful dash IMHO, I love that picture Ben.
