The engine got scrubbed this week and looks 100% better. Still need to do somemore work but its good enough now to remove the heads and the flywheel to take to the machine shop.

It still needs some more cleaning, but my goal was to get most of the gunk off so that when I pulled the heads I would not have to worry too much about getting it into the cylinders.

Is there anything I need to look for when I pulled the heads?

This engine was running, not smoking (well the little amount of running, it smoked on start-up only), and good oil pressure. I could not get my standard compression gauge (gauge with a long hose and fitting) into the spark plug hole while the engine was installed ...... Not used to a flat motor.
